Leasing could lessen Londoners ULEZ worries

Leasing could be the answer to Londoner’s needing to scrap their existing vehicle for a new one to adhere to the new Ultra-Low Emissions Zone (ULEZ) schemes.

In the week that confirmed the extension of ULEZ to all London boroughs the car leasing comparison site, Leasing.com, has run the numbers and found over 300 new car models on its website that provide an alternative to buying a new or second-hand car outright.

Worried Londoners whose vehicles fall foul of the scheme are being faced with a potential £12.50 a day charge for driving in London. That’s a potential of at least £250.00 a month if driving during the working week, or £350.00 if it includes the weekends.

For that sort of money, Londoners could easily afford a Peugeot 208 Electric Hatchback which costs £264 a month to lease – avoiding any ULEZ charges and getting a new car into the bargain with all of the ongoing service and maintenance costs thrown in.

The fully electric Kia Niro, perfect for families and designed for longer drives also comes well under budget at £296.00 a month. Cheaper still, the all new GWM Ora Funky Cat Hatchback with its retro design and dinky size to zip around London, can be leased for as little as £197 a month – both ensure you beat the ULEZ monthly charge with cash to spare!

Business car hire also offers drivers a fantastic deal. The Nissan Townstar van can be leased for as little as £210 per month, or if you’re looking for a more substantial van and you’re ready to go fully electric, why not try the Volkswagen ID Buzz Cargo which has generous battery range of 258 miles on a single charge.

As the cost-of-living crisis continues to squeeze household budgets, and with the additional challenge of adapting to emissions-conscious cities, Dave Timmis, CEO, of Leasing.com says leasing a vehicle can give drivers peace of mind: “Reducing emissions is rightly becoming the defining factor in how we tackle climate change,” he says. “But the challenge is in making it affordable to all, so no sections of society are marginalised.

“That’s why we’re proud to offer drivers who find themselves thrown into ULEZ no man’s land, a path to an affordable solution to continue driving sustainably in and around London.”
