Residents and staff at six Bupa care homes in London celebrated the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee over the weekend with street-style parties, complete with traditional British delicacies and on-site entertainment.

The royal celebrations, organised by the home’s activities coordinators at The Kensington, Nairn House, Harts House, Healthland Court, Meadbank, and Stamford Bupa Care Homes, featured a garden tea party consisting of homemade cakes and scones from the homes’ dedicated chefs. Residents and family came together to enjoy queen-themed bingo and quizzes.

Residents at The Kensington were joined by the Mayor of Kensington and Chelsea, Councillor David Lindsay, for a champagne reception, followed by a traditional afternoon tea and live performance from soprano, Eleanor Garside.

Nairn House decorated the entire home in patriotic colours and hung decorations and flower arrangements lovingly crafted by the residents. The home’s Music Therapist hosted a Jubilee-themed session, teaching residents to play memorable pieces from Queen’s coronation to the present day. They brought the celebrations to an end by coming together to reminisce about the Queen’s reigning era, sharing books, pictures and music from the residents’ past.

The residents of Stamford Bupa Care Home were treated to a performance from local singer, Marcus, who performed all the resident’s old-time favourites. Those who attended Meadbank’s celebrations enjoyed entertainment from local singer Robert Jerome in the gazebo. Staff at Harts House dressed as the Queen and provided a silver service dining experience for the residents, while Heathland Court organised a screening of the Queen’s coronation to watch with homemade trifle.

Eileen Hargrave, a resident at Nairn House, commented: “I absolutely loved our Jubilee celebrations as I adore the Queen and think she is such a wonderful person. Throughout my lifetime I have enjoyed watching many of the Queen’s big milestones – from her coronation to her wedding to her silver and gold jubilees – so it felt very moving to celebrate her 70 years of incredible service.”

Maria Ann Kirk, Senior activity co-ordinator at Nairn House, commented: “All of the team and residents had a brilliant time celebrating the Jubilee. Not only was it a fantastic opportunity to pay homage to the Queen’s service, but it was also a great enrichment opportunity for our residents – boosting their wellbeing and providing them with a lovely chance to reminisce about their memories of the Queen’s reign.”
