As part of the London Design Festival, students and staff from London College of Communication (LCC) have collaboratively produced a cookbook with the Cafe at Jamyang, situated at the Jamyang Buddhist Centre in Elephant & Castle. The cookbook entitled, The Elephant’s Secret Kitchen, will be launched on Thursday 27 September, 6-8pm at the Atrium Gallery in LCC.
The event will showcase an exhibition of the behind-the-scenes making of the cookbook and how it was printed in-house on the Heidelberg lithography press at LCC. In addition, the evening will include demonstrations of how kitchen waste and plant matter were used to dye the bookmarks, producing over 40 different shades of colours. Visitors will also have the opportunity to meet with and chat to participants involved in the project.
The project was initiated by London College of Communication technical staff Florence Hawkins and Rahel Zoller, plus Ilaria Mezzogori from the Cafe at Jamyang. Participants in the project included students from across all three of LCC’s departments; Design, Media and Screen.
Copies of The Elephant’s Secret Kitchen will also be available for sale on the night.
