Circular fashion designer Genaro Rivas has been announced as the overall winner of Recycle the Runway, a new initiative from Visa’s Young Creators series designed to support the next generation of fashion entrepreneurs to reach their full potential.

Genaro Rivas – a fashion brand that merges the rich textile heritage of Peru with contemporary London design to challenge the norms of fast fashion – was selected by judges from London College of Fashion, UAL, British Fashion Council, the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, Vogue Business and Visa, as well as artist, Sophie Tea. The designer was awarded at a live event held on 22 May in Central London, being recognised for their circular creativity, ethical sourcing and innovation.

Five other winning designers, Gbadebo, Fanfare Label, Marinava, SONDOR and BEEN, were also recognised, each receiving a share of the £20,000 prize fund and mentorship from leading industry experts. FingsbyFloss, who received the Honourable Mention, will also receive expert mentorship to support the development of their circular fashion business.

This year’s competition attracted applicants from across the UK, all demonstrating a strong commitment to circular fashion practices. Following a rigorous selection process, six emerging talents were chosen to bring their visions to the runway.

The judging panel featured artist and social media sensation Sophie Tea, who comments: “What’s so exciting about Recycle the Runway is how Genaro Rivas is blending bold self-expression with purpose-driven design. As someone who built a business through the support of digital platforms and community, I know how far the right visibility can go and I’m thrilled to be part of something that’s backing the next wave of creators and entrepreneurs shaping fashion’s future. “

Recycle the Runway winner, Genaro Rivas, commented: “It has been such an incredible experience from being selected as a finalist to showcasing my work at the event. I’ve learned so much already and I’m excited to continue growing my small business with the support and mentorship that comes with this opportunity. Being recognised in this way has provided me with real confidence to achieve my vision of giving fashion a purpose, and I can’t wait to see where it leads!”

At the heart of Recycle the Runway initiative is Visa’s ambition to inspire creators to embrace circular business models. From resale and rental, to repair and refill, Visa supports the shift to recommerce, making it not only possible, but preferable.
