Fola Komolafe MBE DL, CEO of World Vision UK, has been awarded the Black Female Pioneer of the Year award at Milton Keynes’ first Black Excellence Awards, which celebrates and champions black talent in the community and the positive impacts they have made.
Ms Komolafe was presented with the award by Milton Keynes Mayor Mick Legg and was one
of 11 nominees announced in October, Black History Month.
Fola Komolafe MBE DL commented: “I am so honoured to be recognised and to receive this award. I love being a black woman doing some great things in Milton Keynes, where I am part of a wonderful and caring community who come together to help and support each other.
I hope to be able to inspire, encourage and challenge every person, especially our young ones, to know that they can be a pioneer of change, giving themselves permission for their own unique
story to be written as they pursue their dreams, even if they don’t always feel fully prepared for
it.
I am also proud of being part of a community at World Vision UK, where I and all the World
Vision team are committed to driving forward our continued vision and quest to raise the
profile and the reality of the situations that vulnerable children across the globe face; children
who need our support and prayer, as well as much-needed funds to contribute to the many
initiatives that we have that can help aid those that urgently need assistance in very difficult
and challenging times. Together we can make things happen.”
Fola Komolafe MBE DL was recently appointed chief executive of World Vision UK, a
Christian charity headquartered in Milton Keynes. The child-focussed NGO works globally to
tackle the root causes of poverty and injustice, in addition to providing life-saving aid and
support in the wake of humanitarian emergencies and natural disasters.
