London-based nursery Three Little Birds has raised £3,540 after completing The Moonwalk London Charity Walk which fundraises for vital breast cancer research.

Laura Millward, Parent Liaison Officer at Three Little Birds Nurseries, was due to take part in the charity walk in 2020 with her friend Jo who was battling breast cancer at the time, but the event was postponed due to the pandemic. After Jo passed away from the disease in May 2021, Laura was determined to complete the delayed walk in her honour and raise money for a valuable cause.

Joined by colleagues Louise Ashbee, Charlotte Gould, James Morris, Chloe O’Donovan, Donna Shepherdgill, Helen Regan and Ciydem Cafer-Monargali, Laura and the team from Three Little Birds took on the gruelling 26.2 mile walk throughout the night and crossed the finish line after 10 hours of walking.

James Morris, Joint CEO at Three Little Birds said: “We are absolutely over the moon to have raised over £3,000 for breast cancer research in memory of Laura’s friend Jo and everyone who has been affected by breast cancer.

“Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK so all funds raised for The Moonwalk London Charity Walk are going towards vital research for the disease that affects so many each year.

“We pride ourselves on coming together as a team at Three Little Birds so we didn’t think twice about supporting Laura in Jo’s memory.”

The Moonwalk London Charity Walk began in 1998 after 13 women power walked the New York City Marathon in their bras to raise money and awareness for breast cancer. Since then, the walk is traditionally completed in bras decorated with various colours and materials.

Since its conception 24 years ago, the walk has raised in excess of £137 million, much of which has been granted to support a wide variety of organisations across the UK. The charity has progressed enormously in this time with research and knowledge of breast cancer in addition to treatments and diagnosis.
