If left too long, hunger kills. But the charity Action Against Hunger won’t let it. And neither will students from central London-based school, Ecole Jeannine Manuel, who have raised an incredible £21,351.10 to tackle the global hunger crisis.
500 pupils from Ecole Jeannine Manuel, located in London’s borough of Camden, organised two runs this summer to fundraise for Action Against Hunger – the world’s leading charity stopping life-threatening hunger in its tracks. This was part of the organisation’s global fundraising campaign, ‘Run Against Hunger.’
Launched across France, Spain, Germany, Italy, Peru, Colombia and the UK over 20 years ago, Run Against Hunger aims to combine education, exercise and fundraising for schools and colleges around the world. Ecole Jeannine Manuel made sure that its students, of varied ages, got the right level of challenge in each of the two runs. The younger students, aged three to six, took part by running laps in a small garden; they raised an incredible £15,000. Students aged 7 to 15 raised an additional £6,000 by running around football pitches at Coram’s Fields, tipping the fundraising total to an outstanding £21,351.10. The pupils raised the amount through sponsorships and donations.
2022 marks Ecole Jeannine Manuel’s fifth year of taking part in fundraising efforts for the charity; they started supporting the campaign in 2016 and had a hiatus from 2019- 2022 due to Covid-19.
Rana Massoud, parent and ex-President of the Parents Association at Ecole Jeannine Manuel says:
“Run Against Hunger is a great way to get our community together to build awareness around hunger issues that our world faces. Our school has a focus on international understanding, and one way of showing that is by helping the less fortunate in all corners of the world. Since the pandemic, we know that families and children in many places need our help now more than ever. We hope our participation will make a real difference!”
Danny Potts, Activities Manager at Ecole Jeannine Manuel says:
“We are very proud to have been able to support Action Against Hunger for all these years. Our annual Run Against Hunger is a highlight for our entire community, and we look forward to supporting the campaign more in the years to come.”

Jenna Allcock, Head of Public Engagement at Action Against Hunger UK says:
“We were delighted when Ecole Jeannine Manuel announced that they wanted to take part in Run Against Hunger again. Each year, the enthusiasm and generosity from the students, teachers and parents amaze us. This incredible fundraising achievement can allow our teams to support people who don’t have enough food around the world. For example, £21,351.10 could provide six weeks of life-saving therapeutic food to over 2,000 children. We can’t thank you enough for helping us to stop life-threatening hunger in its tracks.”
