Thousands of walkers are expected to take to the streets of the capital on Saturday 22 August as the London Summer Walk returns, offering a fresh way to explore the capital’s lesser‑known historic corners and iconic riverside landmarks.

Part of the popular Ultra Challenge Series, the event invites participants to explore the Thames’ many landmarks, with three fully supported walking‑only routes all starting and finishing in Woolwich.

The flagship 42km Marathon Loop sets off around 08:00 and takes walkers through the Woolwich Tunnel, into Docklands and past the Olympic Park, then down to the Tower of London before looping back along the river with sweeping views of Canary Wharf.

For those seeking a shorter challenge, the 25km Loop begins at 10:00 and follows a scenic route around the Thames, taking in the Cutty Sark, Old Naval College and Greenwich Peninsula. The 10km Woolwich Challenge kicks off last at 11:00 and offers a family‑friendly option with the same lively start‑finish hub.

All routes provide participants with medic support, rest stops, food and drinks, and all finishers receive a London Summer Walk medal, certificate and free massage. An experienced team of volunteers will be present along the entire route.

Participants will also be raising funds for a wide range of charities, with the Ultra Challenge Series continuing to be one of the UK’s most popular fundraising platforms, collectively raising millions of pounds each year. Already, the London Summer Walk has raised a remarkable £250k for hundreds of charities up and down the country.

With its mix of history, riverside scenery and end‑of‑summer celebration atmosphere, the London Summer Walk promises to be one of the capital’s standout endurance events of the year.
