London Transport Museum teams up with Uber Boat by Thames Clippers to launch a bursary for schools on the river

London Transport Museum is partnering with Uber Boat by Thames Clippers to offer bursary places to 13 primary schools in London to attend Key Stage 2 (7- to 11-year-old children)
education sessions at the Museum between September 2023 and May 2024.

The bursary offers schools discounted travel by the River Bus service so children can discover the beauty of the river as they travel to educational sessions at the Museum
in Covent Garden.

Children can travel on Uber Boat by Thames Clippers’ ultra-modern fleet and may even get the chance to ride on the latest vessel, Earth Clipper; the capital’s first hybrid
boat which runs solely on battery power through central London. Whilst on the journey children will take part in specially designed activities which open their eyes to the city of London and the iconic river Thames.

At the Museum up to three classes from each school will be able to take part in free interactive sessions, paid for by Uber Boat by Thames Clippers, which use immersive story-telling
and hands-on activities to bring science, technology, art, literacy, and local studies to life. The learning sessions are:

·
Caribbean Journeys: From conductor
to engineer, students learn about the diverse and inspirational careers of London Transport’s Caribbean workforce. Immersive story telling uncovers how Caribbean culture has shaped the way we travel and the city in which we live. This session explores concepts
of inclusion and identity, helping children develop and practice their empathy, enquiry, listening and communication skills.

·
Coding the Capital: London has the
world’s very first underground railway network, but this claim to fame comes with many challenges. How do engineers integrate new technology into this historic system? How automated is the Tube? And what does a driverless train really look like? In this hands-on
session students will learn answers to all of the above and code driverless trains for their own capital city. Whether new to coding or an experienced coder, this session will bring to life the ways that coding can be used in the real world to solve problems
that impact our everyday lives. This session builds students’ problem-solving skills by working on real world problems facing transport engineers, while considering the ways that our city’s history shapes its future.

Currently, almost five hundred children are set to benefit from these discounted river trips and free learning sessions. Seven schools have already signed up with spaces still
available for six schools located close to an Uber Boat by Thames Clippers Pier. More information about London Transport Museum’s school sessions and the eligibility criteria for the bursary can be found on London Transport Museum’s website:

Fenella Goodhart, Head of Learning, London Transport Museum said:
‘We know that our school sessions make a big difference to the children taking part, opening their eyes to new opportunities. We also know that schools are finding it increasingly difficult to find the funds and the time in the curriculum to visit. We are
very grateful to Uber Boat by Thames Clippers for giving 13 schools the opportunity to combine a free visit to the Museum with an unforgettable journey by river.’

Geoff Symonds, Chief Operating Officer, Uber Boat by Thames Clippers said:
‘We’ve worked closely with London Transport Museum for several years now, for example delivering the Thames Tripper boat in the Museum’s All Aboard playzone.
We are very proud to be expanding our collaboration, by supporting this worthwhile schools bursary programme. We hope the bursary will provide many more children living by the river Thames, the opportunity to get on and enjoy the river, as well as take part
in the wonderful programme that the Museum has lined up for them.’
