Londoners urged to use services wisely as staffing levels across London’s NHS remain exceptionally low

Members from the Royal College of Nursing continue strike action until midnight tonight, with Unite staff members from Guy’s and St Thomas’ also taking action today until Wednesday 3 May.

As industrial action continues today, London’s Chief Nurse, Jane Clegg, said:

“Our staff are working incredibly hard today to keep Londoners safe. It is important people are aware however, that staffing levels for some London hospitals are exceptionally low. While mitigations have been agreed with the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) to maintain life and limb care at some London hospitals, the reality is that most services are running at significantly less capacity.

“That is why we’re asking Londoners – please use NHS 111 online and pharmacies for non-urgent health concerns. People must continue to call 999 in a life-threatening emergency as we will be prioritising urgent and emergency care.”
