Professor Katrin Hohl of City, University of London has been appointed the inaugural Lord Mayor’s Fellow to work on combatting violence against women and girls in the City through research.

As part of the fellowship, Professor Katrin Hohl will work on research that aligns with the Lady Mayoress Elisabeth’s commitment to continue Stop Violence Against Women & Girls Initiative.

Professor Katrin Hohl was the joint academic lead of Operation Soteria Bluestone, which radically transformed police responses to rape and other sexual offences in the UK.

She said:

“I am thrilled to serve as the inaugural Lord Mayor’s Fellow.

“Violence against women and girls has devastating consequences for its victims and survivors, and society at large.

“The Lord Mayor Fellowship enables to me to further pursue my research on how we can improve criminal justice responses to these crimes.”

City has a longstanding connection to the Lord Mayor, who holds the role of Rector at the University.

Lord Mayor Michael Mainelli was awarded an honorary doctorate from City at the University’s winter graduation ceremony yesterday, on Tuesday 23 January 2024.

He said:

“This new Fellowship embodies the strong connections between the University and the City of London Corporation and will help us work together to support new research and shape policy – recognising that the City of London’s knowledge miles are crucial to the success of our Square Mile, the world’s coffee house, where people connect to prosper.”
