A construction worker’s lucky guess in an online competition ‘ticked’ all the right boxes, winning him a brand new Rolex watch worth nearly £8,000.

Thanks to online competitions company BOTB, Jonathan Veal from London couldn’t keep a straight ‘face’ when the firm’s presenter Christian Williams video called him to break the news about his phenomenal win – from a contest he’d forgotten he’d entered.

Jonathan won a Rolex GMT-Master II Batman watch, worth a whopping £7,750 – a watch which is proudly owned by the likes of tennis legend Roger Federer, and football icons Kasper Schmeichel and Karim Benzema.

The stunning blue and black Rolex dress watch is self-winding, with a case and strap made of oystersteel, and is water resistant up to 100 metres.

All Jonathan had to do to win was to correctly select which of nine countries displayed did not qualify for the 2020(21) UEFA European Football Championship. He correctly answered Greece – but admitted to Christian that this was, in fact, a lucky guess.

What’s more, the competition cost just 50p to enter.

Jonathan, whose face lit up the moment he saw Christian’s face on his phone, had forgotten he’d entered the BOTB competition until he received the call.

The former personal trainer, who became a construction apprentice due to the lockdown restrictions, was visibly shocked at the news.

“Wow – I can’t believe this,” exclaimed Jonathan.

“It’s crazy – I’ve always wanted something like this.

“It’s just such a signature piece – that one specifically; I really like the face. It’s not too big, it’s not too small, it just sits perfectly on the wrist. It just looks classy.

“You’ve made my day.”

BOTB hands over the keys to two stunning cars each week as well as a lifestyle prize. Other recent winners have bagged a quad bike, a holiday to Las Vegas and a gaming tech bundle.

The company, listed on the stock market, was founded by William Hindmarch in 1999 and has given away more than £42m-worth of cars so far.

Christian, who surprises the BOTB winners each week, said: “What a wonderful win for Jonathan. He played for a superb prize and I was hugely excited to surprise him! Massive congratulations again!”
