South Londoners who’ve been impacted by cancer can now access support from two new and improved Macmillan sites in Wandsworth borough.

The much-loved Macmillan Information and Support Centre at St George’s Hospital in Tooting has undergone a major refurbishment.

While a brand-new Macmillan information hub has opened at Queen Mary’s Hospital in Roehampton. Ensuring even more cancer patients can be helped in the heart of their communities.

Macmillan has invested a total of over £211,300 in the two services.

The refreshed St George’s Macmillan centre has been expanded, so the team can now host an extended range of wellbeing workshops, support groups, and welfare benefits advice. As well as being an even more welcoming place for people with cancer to visit and find the support they need.

The new Macmillan hub at Queen Mary’s offers access to expert cancer information and support two days a week and is ideally located near the hospital’s main cancer clinics. The hub also welcomes people with cancer who aren’t currently hospital patients.

Caitriona Ni Mhuiris, Macmillan Lead Nurse for Personalised Cancer, who has led on the St George’s centre revamp, said:
“Every step of the process has been patient-led – from layout to paint choices. We’ve also incorporated new artwork by local artists, upcycled existing furniture and installed ‘blue sky’ lighting panels, not to mention an improved kitchen area, which all combines to create an inviting and comfy space that patients and their loved ones can use as a home from home.

“We were particularly keen to upcycle and repurpose much of the existing centre furniture, in order to keep costs down and to minimise environmental impact. Sofas and chairs have been reupholstered and shelving adapted rather than binned. We’re really proud of how welcoming the centre looks now and that we’ve done so mindfully.

“This major refurb presents us with so many more opportunities to provide support to people with cancer and will ensure the Macmillan Centre at St George’s continues to be fit for purpose. And the new hub at Queen Mary’s expands our reach, allowing us to bring essential services closer to even more people with cancer.”
