CALLING all London foodies, Peckham’s bustling Rye Lane high street is set to receive a hot addition this summer, with the capital’s fastest growing indoor street food restaurant and bar brand, Market Place, set to open its doors to the public on 15 July.

As part of the brand’s newly renovated space at Unit 10, The Aylesham Centre, Peckham’s exciting new street food market will offer guests a host of exciting events in the opening weeks, with a full line-up of renowned DJs, pop-up collaborations and more in the pipeline.

The new space has capacity for up to 250 people across its five indoor seating zones and is family and dog-friendly, with a juice bar, free WiFi and hot drinks to cater to the work-from-home professionals in the local area.
It will also feature a vibrant bar, industrial exposed ceilings, foliage and neon signage akin to the brand’s thriving locations in Harrow, Vauxhall and Hounslow.

Blake Henderson, managing director of Market Place, said: “Spotlighting new and innovative street food brands is central to our ethos as a company. We’re hugely excited to be welcoming ten incredible new vendors to Market Place Peckham this July, and bringing the hottest small businesses on London’s street food scene to the people of Peckham.

“Our team has carefully selected each of the traders to ensure we offer something for every palate – we’ve created a melting pot of cuisines that caters to lovers of sweet, savoury and spice, as well as all dietary requirements.”

In true Market Place style, the brand has secured a mouthwatering line-up of ten street food vendors to tingle the tastebuds of South London street food aficionados.

Vendors include traditional Nigerian street food specialists Suya & Lobster, a brand which originates from the heart of Deptford, and will be serving its sell-out seafood dishes which are already taking south London by storm. The venue will also be home to Los Tacos, the go-to destination for authentic, fresh and fun Mexican street food.

Lined up to launch on 15 July will also be Hawaiian street food brand Huli Huli. Meaning ‘turn turn’ in Hawaiian, Huli Huli’s eye-catching dishes have been inspired by the traditional marinated chicken cooked on the roadside in Hawaii by rotating charcoal roasting spits.

Meanwhile, the spice alchemists of the London street food scene, Baba G’swill also be serving their BBC Million Pound Menu-winning Indian inspired burgers, stacks lamb patties and colourful sides in undeniably distinctive Baba G flavours.

Also on the list is specialised Indo-Chinese street food brand Pepper Spice, who will serve everything from spicy Schezwan to tangy sweet and sour, catering to all Pan Asian foodie palates. Guests can also expect to see award-winning Mediterranean street food brand Farm House Kebab’s mouthwatering Turkish meat kebabs on the menu, alongside the melt-in-the-mouth meat selection from Argentinian Grill, cooked on the smoker to give a distinctively juicy texture and smoky flavour.

Thai food experts KraPow, who are going against the grain of the chain restaurants and supermarket aisles, will bring dishes with influence from Chiang Mai in Northern Thailand, with punchy, complex flavours in delicious curry and rice dishes.

The sweet-toothed crowd are also in luck, as the venue will be home to famed artisan donut brand, Dum Dum Donutterie, which will serve its traditional baked donuts alongside its viral cronut.

Market Place Peckham won’t just cater for foodies too, for London’s biggest music lovers the team also has an exciting calendar of events taking place during its opening month.

Liam Monaghan, events, partnerships and acquisitions manager at Market Place, added: “Peckham is a really unique location within London and so we want our Peckham venue to go one step further than the rest of our sites by offering events that really speak to the local community. We’ve been hard at work in recent weeks orchestrating a line-up that will really pack a punch during launch month.”

Events include the Big Quiz! on 17 July, a 90-minute exclusive set from Sir David Rodigan OBE, available via sign-up through Skiddle on 19 July, and a night with illustrious jeweller and creator Johnny Hoxton, featuring Danny Rankin from Kurupt FM / People Just Do Nothing as a special guest on decks.

Harry Pineros and the Disco Express will feature on Saturday 22 July, while Sunday 23 July will see local reggae heroes take to the decks for a chilled Sunday wind-down.

The new Market Place Peckham venue is wheelchair accessible, caters to all dietary requirements, and can be found at Unit 10, The Aylesham Centre, Rye Lane, London SE15 5EW. Market Place Peckham will be open from 11.00am-11.30pm, Monday to Sunday from 15 July 2023.
