In November 2024, this amazing team of Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice frontline hospice staff will be swapping their scrubs and uniforms to spend four days and three nights trekking across the Sahara Desert to raise money for their hospice and to mark the hospice’s 30th anniversary.
Hailing from all areas of the hospice, the team is made up of staff from the nursing, rehabilitation and bereavement counselling teams, plus colleagues from the fundraising and volunteering teams.
On a typical day, you’ll find them on the hospice’s inpatient unit and in the community, delivering vital care and support to patients in the Royal Borough of Greenwich and London Borough of Bexley. These are people who have been diagnosed with a terminal or life-limiting condition and who need compassionate palliative and end-of-life care.
Every day, the team make a difference in the lives of patients and their family members who need it the most. Now, they are set to go the extra mile by embarking on this fundraising challenge of a lifetime to support the hospice in raising some of the £6 million it aims to raise annually to deliver the services it provides.
Natalie Moseley, Head of Community Services at the hospice, said: “We feel so privileged to work with and be part of such an amazing team of colleagues who every day make a positive difference to the lives of people in our community, who need our care and support the most.
“This might be helping families to create special last memories with a loved one who is nearing the end of their life, or it may be about supporting people to live as well as they can for as long as they can. Every year, the hospice looks after nearly 3,000 patients, and in this, our 30th year, we want to do our bit to make sure that the hospice can continue to deliver brilliant care and support for many more years to come.”
