Meet The Muse Gallery’s Artists in Residence 2018

0

Josephine Cottrell, Mahaut Harley Leca and Mark Tamer are the current artists in residence at the Muse Gallery. They share an interest in disrupting traditional methods and perceptions and each present a body of work developed during their three months at the on-site studio.

Mark Tamer applies punk sensibilities to a creative practice of photographic experimentation. He explores analogue and digital processes and structures to find a balance between chance and control and to produce results that sit somewhere between careful construction and careless destruction.

Working across a variety of media, Mahaut Harley Leca’s work explores the role of women and specifically that of women artists. Her deconstructed collages in particular mirror the Buddhist concept of wabi sabi that defines beauty as imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete.

Josephine Cottrell is inspired by Japanese aesthetics and experiments with a non-traditional approach to traditional printmaking techniques and materials. Her subtle monoprints combine natural and abstract form and play with the viewer’s perception.
