Nature inspired animation, art and poetry workshops for budding creatives at London Transport Museum this Easter

Families visiting the award-winning London Transport Museum in Covent Garden over the Easter holidays can take part in creative family activities.Through interactive animation, poetry, science and storytelling workshops, young visitors will get familiar with the amazing plants that thrive in urban spaces, learn about the transport innovations that have changed London through history, and uncover the important role plants can play in helping to create a happy, healthy capital city of the future.

What’s on:
Storytelling and plant pot decorating (drop-in) 
Selected dates from 30 April-13 April. Suitable for children aged 0-7 and their families.
Younger children can discover the difference a single seed can make to our city in lively story-time sessions followed by a plant pot decorating craft workshop. With seeds to take home and watch grow.

Creative writing workshop (drop-in)
Selected dates from 29 March-14 April. Suitable for children aged 7-11 and their families.
Aspiring writers and their families will learn tips and tricks for writing a piece of poetry or prose. Looking to nature, families will learn about the resilience of plants in urban spaces and how their adaptability can inspire optimism about life in a London of the future.

Art and science workshop with the Garden Museum (drop-in) 
Selected dates from 2 April-11 April. Suitable for children aged 7-11 and their families.
Children can dig into the science of plant life and their mesmerising powers in this hands-on workshop. They’ll get familiar with microscopes, learn how plants can help combat the climate emergency and create a Hapa Zome leaf artwork to take home.

Museum gallery tour (drop-in)
Selected dates from 1 April-11 April. Suitable for children of all ages and their families.
Visitors can join this tour to discover the history of London Transport Museum and the beautiful Grade II listed building it calls home – once the historic Covent Garden Flower Market. Plus learn about the transport innovations through history that have transformed London and its landscape into the city we know today.

Stop-motion animation workshop (booking required)
Thursday 4 April 2024 and 11 April 2024. Suitable for children and young people ages 12-16.
This full-day workshop will take young people through the basics of animation. From developing a concept from the seed of an idea, to storyboarding frames and trialling animation techniques, they’ll put these new skills into practice to create their very own stop-motion short film inspired by nature.

New pop-up exhibition
From Friday 22 March – Sunday 28 April, London Transport Museum will host Time is Running Out, a pop-up exhibition by the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE). With original hand-drawn illustrations and animations, the exhibition engages and educates families on the role of civil engineers in the fight against climate change and reducing carbon emissions. Exhibition entry is included as part of timed-entry tickets to the Museum.

During a visit to London Transport Museum families can also:  

See historic Underground trains – including one of the last surviving steam locomotives that ran on the world’s first underground railway – as well as original designs of the now iconic Tube map and London Underground logo.
Peruse the new Global Poster Gallery and its inaugural exhibition, How to Make a Poster to enjoy a showcase of stunning commercial poster designs that have graced London’s transport network since 1900.
Play train driver on an Elizabeth line simulator.  
Explore the All Aboard family play zone where young visitors can play conductor on a bus, repair a mini Tube train with toy spanners, and work in the ‘Lost Property Office’.
Grab a bite to eat at Canteen, the Museum’s café bar, while enjoying views over Covent Garden Piazza.
