A new impartial, free energy support advice service is from today (21 November) being offered to City residents who may be struggling with the cost of living.

The Green Doctors scheme is available to households in receipt of means tested-benefits, aged 65 and over and people with long-term health conditions or disabilities.
The programme – provided by the charity Groundwork – offers a free winter home, financial and health support package to those most in need, and includes:
Energy efficiency advice
Installation of energy saving devices
Support for applying for larger energy saving measures
Impartial advice that will help residents heat their homes for less
Directing and connecting residents to further help.

Chairman of the City of London Corporation’s Community and Children’s Services Committee, Ruby Sayed, said:
“This important initiative both reflects our commitment to help those struggling with the cost of living, and that we are taking every step we can to reduce the carbon footprints of our homes as we respond to climate change.

“As temperatures start to dip, it’s vital that we support those who will be challenged by rising energy cost to take every step – even the small ones – to make their homes more energy efficient.
“Keeping warm over the winter months can help prevent colds, flu or more serious health conditions such as heart attacks, strokes, pneumonia and depression which affect more vulnerable people.
“This support package can make all the difference helping vulnerable residents stay warm and healthy during the colder months.”
Daniel Brittle, Green Doctor Service Manager (Groundwork London & South of England) said:
“For 15 years Green Doctors have been helping people stay well and warm at home and save money on their household bills. Our Green Doctor are specialist in providing impartial and practical advice that is easy to adopt. The team is ready to support residents of the City of London who are struggling with the cost of living.”
