Opticians celebrate Best Employer at the Bexley Business Awards

THE team at a locally owned and run high street opticians in Bexleyheath was delighted to be presented with an award for Best Employer within the community.

Hosted by TV personality and performer Luke Roberts, the 2026 Bexleyheath BID Business Awards are awarded to independent businesses and franchises who have made a positive impact within the London Borough of Bexley.

In its fifth year, the awards ceremony combined the Bexley Business Awards with the Bexleyheath High Street Awards. The event was held at the historic Hall Place and Gardens in Bexley which offered a magnificent backdrop to the evening.

Written entries followed by an interview resulted in the Award nominations for the selected retailer or service across 20 categories, including Best Retail, Hospitality, Customer Service, Health and Wellbeing, Professional and Beauty services and Legacy Business.

Specsavers Bexleyheath, retail director Wouter De Wit, who along with director, Sachin Patel have been store partners for the last 17 years says: ‘‘We are extremely proud and honoured to have received a commendation for Best Legacy Business having been part of the community for the last 32 years.

‘To have won the Best Employer Award is a wonderful achievement for the team. We are planning a local celebratory event to mark the occasion very soon.

‘Bexleyheath BID is committed to invigorating the local business community and retail sector and we’re proud to be supporters of this initiative.’

A not-for-profit organisation, Bexleyheath BID is funded and run by businesses in the town centre. Its focus is to positively improve the local trading environment and make Bexleyheath a vibrant and attractive town centre for businesses, residents and visitors.

Customers pay an extra £5 for the scan.

There are also two dedicated soundproof hearing rooms so customers can have their hearing checked, coupled with the latest micro-suction equipment to clear blocked ears, plus a wax removal service is available.

The store also offers Minor Eye Care Services (MECS) providing enhanced services, such as the management of red eyes, flashes and floaters and dry eyes, offering support to the local GP practices, plus a dry eye clinic with Zest treatment.

During an eye test, Specsavers’ optometrists will assess your vision as well as check the overall health of your eyes so it’s important to have regular eye tests, even if you aren’t experiencing any eye issues or symptoms.
