Overlooked cats wait a combined 432 days for their fur-ever homes

RSPCA animal carers are hoping to find the perfect homes for three long-stay rescue cats who have been waiting a total of 432 days.

At RSPCA South West London Branch, cats Davina (287 days) and Taco and Ace (145 days) have so far been overlooked with no interest from potential adopters with the branch now urgently appealing for the perfect homes for them.

Thousands of cats are currently being cared for by RSPCA national centres and along with the independently-run RSPCA branches across England and Wales. The rise in numbers is partly due to several recent large-scale cruelty and neglect cases which have led to high numbers of cats.

Two-year-old Davina went up for rehoming back in February meaning she has been waiting a total of 287 days for a home and has been in RSPCA care for 314 days in total!

“Davina is a young, affectionate and independent cat with a soft nature, a silky coat and stunning fluffy tail,” said Sarah Henderson from the branch’s rehoming team.

“She’s full of energy and curiosity and will need a private garden with a cat flap – she loves spending time exploring and can’t wait to get back outside.

“While Davina isn’t a lap cat, she’s a loyal and comforting companion who has a tiny, sweet miaow and enjoys gentle strokes. She’s happy to be picked up and cuddled when in the mood and easy to read when she’s not. As she’s become more settled in her foster home she has started joining them in bed for cuddles too.”

“Davina’s playful and intelligent, however she can occasionally become overstimulated or frustrated.”

Loud noises can make her hide so she will need a calm, adult-only home where she can relax and build a bond at her own pace.

Taco and Ace have been in the branch’s care for 145 days and looking for a purr-fect home together, with no applications, for 87 days!

Sarah said Taco and Ace are a mischievous duo with a kitten-like bond.

“They play hard, adore each other and bring a lot of personality into the home,” she said. “They’re full of affection and charm for anyone who understands and enjoys high energy cats.”

“Taco is a sweet natured, calm and cuddly boy. He loves cheek rubs and head nuzzles and will flop on his side to enjoy fuss. He’s very food driven and sometimes is cheeky about it as he won’t hesitate to ‘help’ Ace finish her dinner if allowed!”

While Ace is more inquisitive and independent, enjoying affection on her terms.

“She’s sweet, chatty and entertaining to be around, especially when she’s in a playful mood, and she has a strong emotional bond with Taco,” said Sarah.

“These two are very much partners in crime. They’re curious, clever and enthusiastic about investigating anything, especially food! Together, they make a wonderful, funny and unique pair.”

Taco and Ace are estimated to be aged between one and three. They came into the care of RSPCA South West London Branch with cat flu and needed lots of TLC.

Now ready for their forever home, they would do best in a home with older children and with someone who has experience with cats and can appreciate their quirks. They will also need a good sized private garden they can access via a catflap.

This winter the RSPCA has launched an urgent appeal – The Big Give Back to Animals – in the hope of raising vital funds to keep frontline teams rescuing animals, through the cold winter months.

The charity is bracing itself for increased abandonment reports in winter, with RSPCA frontline rescuers currently doing all they can to help animals experiencing the very worst cruelty and neglect.
