The University of West London (UWL) has awarded Peter Gow, HS2’s Delivery Lead for Old Oak Common Station, an Honorary Master of Business Administration in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the UK’s infrastructure sector. The award was awarded on Wednesday 22 July during the University’s graduation ceremonies at the Allianz Stadium, Twickenham.
Peter leads delivery of Old Oak Common Station, one of four new stations on the UK’s flagship high-speed rail programme and set to become one of the country’s largest and most connected transport hubs, linking HS2 with the Elizabeth Line and Great Western Main Line.
Delivering high-profile schemes
With more than a decade of experience delivering major transport infrastructure across London, Peter has led complex, high-profile schemes including the Battersea Power Station extension for Transport for London, the Victoria Station Upgrade, and multiple bridge replacement programmes.
A Chartered Engineer with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) and Chartered Project Professional with the Association for Project Management (APM), Peter is passionate about developing the next generation of engineers.
Championing future talent
Introducing Peter to the graduands and guests, Janet Rowson, UWL’s Director of Apprenticeships said:
“Peter’s dedication to graduate employment and degree apprenticeships has been particularly evident through his partnership with UWL. Through this collaboration, the University has delivered degree apprenticeship programmes for major HS2 Tier One suppliers, including Costain, STRABAG, Skanska, Balfour Beatty, and Vinci, helping to develop highly skilled professionals within the engineering and digital sectors.
Beyond apprenticeships, Peter has actively promoted graduate employment opportunities and career pathways and has regularly engaged with the University to strengthen links between education and industry.”
Building more than infrastructure
Accepting the award, Peter reflected on the importance of creating opportunities for future generations:
“I have been very fortunate to work with the University of West London and support students in acquiring apprenticeships at Old Oak Common which is an excellent opportunity to work in the industry.
People often focus in HS2 on the physical thing but the skills legacy it leaves behind is more transformational for west London. Thousands of people will be employed day in day out and they will go on to build the data centres, schools and hospitals, everything we need in this part of west London.”
