Policing in Central London for visit of President Trump

0

As part of the security operation for the visit of President Trump, a barrier plan will be in place across part of Whitehall just north of the Women’s War Memorial on Tuesday, 4 June.

This restricts access to the roadway and west footway. The east footway will remain accessible to pedestrians.

Maps showing further road closures and footway restrictions in central London on both 3 and 4 June are now available.

The MPS received notification in early May from the organisers of ‘Together Against Trump’ of their intention to stage a protest on 4 June.

They informed police of their intention to make their way from Trafalgar Square down Whitehall and past Downing Street, before assembling in Parliament Square.

Officers met the organisers of ‘Together Against Trump’ on 24 May and advised that, while protestors would not be able to make their way down Whitehall in its entirety, they could still travel down the north end of Whitehall to the barrier line, where they would be able to stage a protest.

The location has a clear view of the access to Downing Street. The organisers have now agreed to this arrangement.

Protestors will not be marching past Downing Street at any point. This is a multi-faceted security operation, and whilst the Met has a responsibility to ensure the right to peaceful protest, this needs to be balanced with the complex requirements of this policing plan.

We are anticipating a number of additional protests to take place across central London throughout the duration of the President’s visit.

Trafalgar Square, Parliament Square and sections of Whitehall are expected to remain busy. A number of road closures and diversions will also be in place.
