Marble Arch London BID, in partnership with The Portman Estate, has brought back its stunning illuminated crescent moon Ramadan display to Nutford Place. This initiative celebrates the significance of Ramadan for the local community, as thousands gather along Edgware Road each evening to break their fast or come together for Eid al-Fitr.
The bespoke 2.9m light installation is in place for the duration of Ramadan, until Sunday 30 March 2025, and illuminated daily from 6am to 11pm. The dazzling walk-through crescent is adorned with warm white LED lights and elegant gold insets and features the heartfelt message “Ramadan Mubarak”, a symbol of blessing and goodwill.
Marble Arch London BID brought the Ramadan lights to Edgware Road for the first time last year and also funds the annual Christmas lights on Edgware Road. Last year’s display was met with overwhelming positivity, with many visitors pausing to admire the lights, take photographs, share their appreciation on social media and reflect on the significance of Ramadan.
The continued presence of the installation reinforces the importance of recognising Ramadan in public spaces and celebrating the diversity that makes Edgware Road such a vibrant part of London.
Edgware Road, a vibrant hub of cafés, shops and restaurants, has long been a gathering place during Ramadan. Offering a rich variety of traditional dishes, from Lebanese and Turkish cuisine to Iraqi, Egyptian and Indian fare, it’s a favourite destination for breaking fast at iftar or celebrating Eid al-Fitr. As families and friends share Ramadan’s rich culinary traditions along Edgware Road, they will be welcomed by the illuminated crescent moon, a striking symbol of celebration and unity.
Ramadan, observed by millions worldwide, is a time of fasting, prayer and community. From dawn to sunset, known as suhoor and iftar, Muslims fast as part of their spiritual practice. Suhoor, the pre-dawn meal, often consists of nourishing foods to sustain energy throughout the day. At sunset, iftar begins with dates, small snacks, and refreshing drinks before a larger meal, often featuring rich and sweet desserts.
To celebrate the return of the Ramadan lights installation, Marble Arch London BID hosted a photocall on 28 February 2025 with Councillor Aicha Less, Deputy Leader of the Council and Councillor Md Shamsed Chowdhury, lead member for Edgware Road, alongside members of the local community.
Kay Buxton, Chief Executive, Marble Arch London BID, comments: “It is great to once again work with The Portman Estate to bring the Ramadan lights display to Edgware Road. It became a real focal point last year and in 2025 we expect to see even more families and friends meeting up at the stunning installation.”
