As the nation continues to struggle with the effects of the cost-of-living crisis, Gumtree, the home of secondhand Good Finds, will be bringing its famous freebies section to the streets of London for one day only as it opens its first ever freebies pop up shop: Gumfree.
Loaded with the website’s best pre-loved finds, customers will be able to browse items – from functional to funny – and walk away with their chosen good find without opening their wallets.

In addition to secondhand freebies-shopping, guests will get to feel the thrill of that good find feeling by having the chance to take a roll on the tombola and discover hidden cash prizes – whether it be in a jacket pocket or down the back of a sofa. There will also be opportunities to learn more about how to sustainably donate or sell items from one of the on-site Gumtree gurus…as just because something is free doesn’t mean it’s junk.
From house plants and games to garden furniture and sofas, the Shoreditch based pop-up will kit visitors out with the most sought-after goods for the home, garden and even the wardrobe, all for free.

Created using sustainable and reusable materials, the shop will be divided into four curated sections, each with their own identity:

Garden Party
Celebrating the great British summer garden party, this area will encapsulate sunny days spent relaxing and entertaining outside. Think garden chairs, alfresco table dressings, bunting, parasols, classic record players and outdoor lanterns.

Outgrown
In keeping with Gumtree’s strong sustainability stance, the outgrown section will offer customers the chance to rehome old house plants plus all the equipment they need to get green fingered – from watering cans and jazzy gardening gloves to wicker baskets, step ladders and garden lanterns.

Laze By The Beach
For those with a beach trip on the horizon this will be the section for them – from a large supply of books they can devour while relaxing on the sand to other essentials such as picnic wear, sunglasses, buckets and spades, beach towels and vintage postcards.

Rainy Daze
It wouldn’t be an English summer without a downpour or two. This area will therefore be dedicated to surviving those drizzly days, whether it’s sheltering from the rain with a puzzle or togging up for splashing adventures. It will be full of jazzy wellie boots, bold brollies, packs of cards, cushions and boardgames.

In addition to items from the site’s freebie section, Gumtree has teamed up with consumer champion and TV presenter Angellica Bell. Angellica will be on site choosing her ‘top product picks’, as well as sharing her advice on how to adopt savvy consumer practices to help manage the purse strings during the current cost-of-living crisis.

The iconic social media personality Charity Shop Sue has also donated an exclusively curated bundle of her items, which will be revealed on the day, for a few lucky customers to get their hands on.

Hannah Rouch, Chief Marketing Officer at Gumtree comments “At Gumtree we know there’s no better feeling than getting your hands on a good find bargain. We’re therefore thrilled to be opening the doors to our Gumfree pop up and showing how, in this turbulent economic climate, diving into the world of secondhand and freebie shopping can not only help you load up on everyday items for little expense but also let you to have fun and get creative with putting your personal stamp on products. We’re looking forward to meeting as many people as possible, whether they’re seasoned secondhand thrifters or first time freebie hunters.”
