Nigel Farage has said that Reform UK will “throw absolutely everything” at the Makerfield by-election, following the news that Andy Burnham will seek to stand as a parliamentary candidate there.
GB News Deputy Political Editor Tom Harwood reported: “I’ve just got off the phone with Nigel Farage, who tells me that the Reform party is going to throw absolutely everything at the seat of Makerfield in the upcoming by-election.
“Nigel tells me that the Reform Party is up for the fight, and it sounds like the Reform party is going to throw, in the words of Nigel Farage, ‘throw everything at it’.
“They are going to have an absolutely enormous campaign. They believe they can win this seat.
“In the wider council area that contains Makerfield, Wigan, Reform won 25 out of 25 council seats. An independent lost one seat. Labour lost 24 seats in that area, all of them went to Reform.
“The Reform party is confident, and they really do believe they can put up a hell of a showing there in Makerfield.
“They think that perhaps they could even win that seat and deny Andy Burnham a path back to Parliament. And there is precedent for this…
“The Labour Party has tried this trick before, and the one time they tried to parachute someone who had lost a seat in an election into a seat where someone had resigned, they lost it.”
