2012 was a crazy year for multiple reasons. Firstly, everyone thought this was the year the world would end – but it didn’t. Secondly, it was a year that featured some of the biggest and most memorable songs of the last decade. Back then, DJ Dreamport released a mashup of 30 of the biggest songs from the Billboard Singles charts of the year, called Replay 2012. It included bangers such as “Payphone”, “Set Fire To The Rain”, and “Call Me Maybe”.

Today, we are revisiting this piece on its 10th anniversary! It seems crazy to imagine that all of these songs are now ten years old! What’s even crazier is the thought process behind Replay 2012. The mashup itself is perfectly delivered with excellent mixes to really tie together all of the most popular songs of 2012. However, there is more substance behind this than you initially think. When composing Replay 2012, DJ Dreamport commented that the message behind the music is one of perseverance and pride. It starts off dark and gloomy, using some of the slower and darker songs of the year. Eventually, the music lifts and we have more uplifting songs that clear away the gloomy air. It’s a mashup that’s all about staying positive and learning to take what the universe throws at us. Even when life seems terrifying and troublesome, everyone can come together to create a brighter world filled with joy.

It’s a very inspiring message that’s brought to life by wonderful song choices. You can see all 30 songs down below, and click here to view the mashup in its entirety:
