The RSPCA is appealing for information after the body of a white bulldog-type dog was found dumped at the roadside in Harrow.
The distressing discovery was made by a member of the public at around 4am on Wednesday, 7 August, on Walton Drive, near the junction with Harrow View. The dog’s body was taken to a nearby veterinary practice, where staff identified injuries consistent with dog bite wounds.
RSPCA Animal Rescue Officer Eve Mannings, who is leading the investigation, said: “This was a male, white bulldog breed and the injuries all over his body suggest he may have been used in illegal dog fighting.
“There is no CCTV in the area, so we’re urgently appealing to anyone who saw anything suspicious around Walton Drive in the early hours of 7 August to get in touch.
“This poor dog would have endured terrible suffering and fear before he died. We are determined to find out who is responsible and prevent more dogs from meeting the same fate.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact the RSPCA inspectorate appeal line on 0300 123 8018, quoting incident number 01599358.
The abandonment of the dog’s body comes as the RSPCA’s ‘Summer Cruelty Appeal’ continues, raising vital funds to support animals experiencing cruelty. The RSPCA sees a peak in cruelty incidents as the weather warms up. Last summer the charity received 374 reports of cruelty against animals every single day.
Summer should be a season of joy for animals. Long walks on golden evenings. Zoomies on the beach. Stretching out in the garden to soak up the sun. But there’s a side to summer you don’t see. For thousands of animals, it’s a season of pain, fear and suffering, when cruelty peaks. Support the RSPCA’s Summer Cruelty Appeal at: rspca.org.uk/endcruelty
