Old Spitalfields Market is delivering a packed, culture-led programme this May, with London Craft Week and a fun Eurovision watch-party setting the tone.
At the heart of the week is Copper Flow & Renewal by Sadie Clayton (11-17 May), transforming Old Spitalfields Market into a live, evolving creative hub where visitors can experience contemporary craft up close.
The activation invites audiences to step inside the artistic process, not just observe it:
Live sculpting in action (12-16 May): Sadie will turn a market stall into a working copper studio, shaping raw material into fluid, organic forms in real time – offering a rare, behind-the-scenes look at a traditionally unseen process.
Immersive installation (11-17 May): the Market’s iconic red phone box is reimagined in copper, becoming a striking sculptural landmark and focal point for the entire week.
Hands-on workshops (12-16 May): visitors can get directly involved, working with copper to create their own take-home pieces – tapping into the growing appetite for tactile, mindful experiences.
Artist talk (14 May): a deeper dive into the intersection of craft, creativity and wellbeing, exploring how it can support mental health and social connection.
Then on 16 May, the energy shifts as Kerb Social Club hosts a one-night-only Eurovision takeover. Think Europop anthems, sequins, live screening from 21:00 and a high-energy crowd, with a sweepstake offering a £50 bar tab prize. Fancy dress is encouraged, making it one of the most vibrant watch parties in East London.
