This August, Londoners can enjoy an undiscovered stretch of the Thames at ‘By the River’, a summer pop-up programme at a unique waterfront location in Barking Riverside.

Barking Riverside is a major new neighbourhood of over 10,000 homes and facilities, which sits alongside 2km of south-facing river frontage. A new London Overground station and Uber Boat by Thames Clippers pier have just opened at Barking Riverside, making this emerging destination easy for Londoners to explore.

‘By the River’ opened earlier this summer, welcoming families, professionals, and city workers across the capital to a brand-new pop-up experience. Throughout the summer, the cool new venue has brought workshops, events, delicious street food such as gourmet hot dogs, Buddha bowls and loaded fries, and cocktails to the riverfront at Barking Riverside.

On the weekend of 20th August, guests can enjoy a selection of on-trend workshops, from tote making to a mini cactus terrarium workshop for kids. Classes along the riverfront range from yoga, to salsa and drawing classes.

Running until Monday 29th August, a final three-day Bank Holiday Weekend event will mark the end of the 6-week programme. The closing party for ‘By the River’ will be a jam-packed weekend of live music, bottomless brunch, a pub quiz and extra activities for the whole family to get involved in. Open to the public, drop-ins are welcome on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th. Monday 29th will be an exclusive ticketed events for guest to watch the sunset over the Thames as ‘By the River’ draws to a close.

The nearest station to ‘By the River’ is the Barking Riverside Overground Station, on the Gospel Oak to Barking Riverside line. The Uber Boat by Thames Clippers service serves the Barking Riverside pier, the most eastern stop on Uber Boat’s RB1 route. Alternatively, visitors can get the EL1 bus from Barking Station. Parking is available only for blue-badged vehicles.
