MY FAVOURITE MELODIES, a new documentary starring beloved British cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason will stream exclusively on Marquee TV, the global streaming service for the arts from 21 June 2026.
At just 27-years-old, Sheku Kanneh-Mason has already spent a decade breaking barriers and records at the top of classical music.
In 2016, Sheku rose to prominence as the first Black musician to win the BBC Young Musician Award since its launch in 1978.
At this time, Sheku was also part of the trailblazing Chineke! Orchestra, the first professional orchestra in Europe to be made up of majority Black and ethnic minority musicians.
In 2018, Sheku’s performance at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding was watched live by an estimated audience of hundreds of millions around the world.

In 2020, Sheku’s second album Elgar made him the first ever cellist to reach the top 10 of the UK album charts, and the first classical musician since Nigel Kennedy to achieve that level of chart success.
MY FAVOURITE MELODIES follows Sheku playing and talking about his greatest inspirations – from traditional Welsh compositions such as Myfanwy, first published in 1875, to the music of Bob Marley, Leonard Cohen, hip-hop, jazz, and 19th century composers such as Franz Liszt and Felix Mendelssohn.
One moving moment sees Sheku perform Mendelssohn’s Song Without Words as a duet with his pianist sister Isata Kanneh-Mason.
Sheku and his siblings grew up playing together, archival footage in this documentary sees Sheku (then 9), Isata (then 11), and Braimah (then 10) playing together as young protégés on children’s TV show Yo Gabba Gabba.
Sheku is the third of the seven Kanneh-Mason siblings, seven brothers and sisters ranging in age from 16 to 29 years old, all of whom play either violin, piano or cello. The siblings first caught the public imagination in in 2015 when six of them performed on Britain’s Got Talent. Since then, the seven siblings have released two critically acclaimed albums together on Decca Classics, winning Best Classical Artist at the Global Awards in 2021 for their debut album Carnival.

Throughout the documentary Sheku breaks into impromptu renditions mid-conversation, showcasing the intimate, emotional performances that first made Sheku an internationally celebrated musician.
MY FAVOURITE MELODIES is filmed in Peckham, where Sheku is based. Of Peckham, Sheku says: “It’s a wonderful place, full of a variety of really beautiful, interesting, and soulful things. I love this neighbourhood, I love exploring it. It’s everchanging, ever growing, evolving, and ever interesting.”
The Kanneh-Mason’s BBC documentaries THIS HOUSE IS FULL OF MUSIC (BBC One, 2020), YOUNG, GIFTED, AND CLASSICAL (BBC Four, 2020), CHRISTMAS WITH THE KANNEH-MASONS (BBC One, 2022), and THE HILLS ARE ALIVE WITH THE KANNEH-MASONS (BBC Four, 2023) have won two Royal Television Society Awards.
