Award-winning luxury later living operator Signature Care Homes has hosted a Knickerbocker Glory Challenge for residents on Facebook Live with MasterChef 2016 winner Jane Devonshire, leading the creative charge for the care industry in utilising the social media platform this way.

Enthusiastic residents and carers joined in as Jane Devonshire constructed the perfect Knickerbocker Glory dessert from her home, before choosing winners from each respective care home. First described in the 1920s, the Knickerbocker Glory is a popular layered ice cream sundae served in a tall conical glass to be eaten with a distinctive long spoon.

The fun initiative was split into three live sessions, with residents and carers from London homes including Wandsworth Common, Wimbledon and Coombe Hill Manor (Kingston) taking part, as well as those across the Home Counties.

The sessions were thoroughly enjoyed by all and collectively achieved over 6,500 views on Facebook and appeared on 45,000 timelines, mirroring a wider societal increase in social media usage during the period of lockdown.

Simon Dickinson, Sales and Brand Director at Signature Care Homes, comments: “Our residents’ happiness and wellbeing is our number one priority, so we have worked hard to ensure that we can still provide fun activities for them while adapting and adhering to the current situation. The challenge was a resounding success with excellent feedback from residents who enjoyed the day. Our teams will continue to be inventive as we look to roll out new initiatives, all delivered with humour, kindness and empathy.”

Jane Devonshire, comments: “It was such a huge joy to be part of the Signature Knickerbocker Glory Challenge day. Some dishes are just so nostalgic and delicious that it was lovely to see the residents and staff having such fun and eating delicious desserts together “
