South Norwood pupils win trust-wide athletics championship

Pupils and staff from South Norwood Primary School in Croydon, part of The Pioneer Academy Trust, are delighted to have won the trust’s athletics championship.

South Norwood were the overall winners at the athletics tournament held on Thursday 6 June at Norman Park Athletics Track in Bromley, which included seven track events and three field events.

South Norwood’s athletics team was selected following a whole school sports day at Croydon Arena on 23 May.

200 pupils across 15 schools from the specialist primary trust took part and The Pioneer Academy has a strong focus on increasing sporting opportunities on offer for all pupils.

This year’s athletics championship also included a competitive PE teachers race!

Melody Berthoud, Head Teacher at South Norwood Primary School, said:

“We are so proud of all our amazing Year 6 athletes, and Coach Mickey for his amazing support.

“Coach Mickey has been following the PE PRO scheme to teach all children different athletics skills during the summer term.

“Many of the children selected also play in South Norwood netball, basketball and football teams.

“We are very proud of all of our pupils for all the effort they put in.”
