Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) has been identified in Guy’s Hospital in London Bridge.

RAAC was found in the boiler room of Guy’s Hospital. According to the relevant NHS Trust committee board the building remains safe and removal will cause minimal disruption.

Commenting Deputy Leader of the Southwark Liberal Democrats Cllr Rachel Bentley said:

“The RAAC crisis is a damning indictment on the deterioration of Britain’s infrastructure under the Conservatives. To find RAAC in such a major hospital in the heart of the capital shows just how pervasive the issue is. Thankfully, in this case, disruption will be minimal. However, we need assurances, from our government and local authorities that our public buildings are safe.

“In September, our Southwark Liberal Democrat group asked for the council to undertake a review of all council owned buildings to ensure they do not pose a danger to residents, we are yet to receive a reply.”
