Specsavers Wallington donate high viz jackets to local Brownies and Rainbows

This year Brake, The Road Safety Charity, organised Road Safety Week 2022 (November 14th – 20th) with the theme, ‘safe roads for all’. Notoriously during the darker, winter nights visibility and lighting is much lower, so it is important that everyone on the roads is vigilant, and they can see clearly, as the dazzle from lights in the dark evenings can easily impact on a driver’s ability to have good vision. Ensuring motorists and all road users’ eyesight is in tip top condition is therefore important.

Wearing reflective clothing if cycling, on e-scooters or even walking in poorly lit areas all helps to be seen. High viz jackets with their reflective materials, greatly help with increasing visibility, and that is what prompted local Brownie, Rainbow and Guide Leader, Angela Higgins to write to her local Specsavers Wallington store and enquire into Specsavers high viz jackets for use across the different units she helps run in Carshalton and Wallington.

Mrs. Higgins said; ‘I’ve been a customer of Specsavers Wallington for ten years, so I am aware of Specsavers support of road safety campaigns, local community initiatives and their high viz jackets, so that is where the initial idea came from. I was delighted to hear back from the store and be advised that they were willing to donate twenty five high viz jackets to the various units I am involved with locally.’

Brownies from the 2nd Wandleside Unit and the 2nd Carshalton Rainbows received their Specsavers high viz jackets on 6th December. Mrs. Higgins commented; ‘Everyone is so grateful for the kind donation from Specsavers Wallington. This means that the children will stand out, especially during the dimmer light of the winter months. We have used the high viz jackets already, on a trip to the cinema, and we will be using them again in the New Year, when we take the Brownies on a sleepover in London.’

Specsavers Wallington ophthalmic director, Vinisha Cliff said; ‘We are delighted to be able to support the local Brownie and Rainbow groups. It’s so important that whether you are in your car, cycling or on foot that you can be seen when it’s dark and with the low-level winter lighting. Plus, it is also special to support one of our long-time customers who is playing a valuable role as a Leader within the local Brownies, Rainbow and Guide Units. We will look out for them in their high viz jackets!’
