STANLEY Johnson is backing his son to stand as Tory leader – amid reports he now has 100 MPs supporting him.

Speaking exclusively to GB News’ Alastair Stewart, Stanley said: “Why wouldn’t Boris want to do it? In 2019, when he won the election, some of those things have not been done, some have been done. So he wants to, I think he thinks he has unfinished business.

“As I’m speaking to you from Exmoor, I’m speaking to you actually, as a potential voter, I’m going to hold up to you this certificate of membership of the Conservative Party.

“I am looking for a candidate who will be very strong on environmental issues, will be very strong on the need to bring us back closer to Europe, and will also be strong on some of these international issues like net zero, and so on and so forth. So these are the things, these are the things I’m looking for. And of course, not everybody’s going to meet all these requirements. But that’s what I’m looking for. And I do believe that Boris on his record meets a lot. He perhaps is uniquely qualified to bring us back into a proper relationship with the EU than others might be.”

“I think he will put his name forward. And I think he will beat Rishi Sunak in a head to head, and I want to say… when I get my vote, my electronic current password, I will be voting for Boris. I think he will do the things I care about Europe, environment, peace in our time and net zero.”
