The Orpington service branch for Stannah Lifts Distribution and Service (LD&S) takes on the company’s incredible 4,000-mile charity cycling challenge, raising £600 for their chosen charity, Bromley & Croydon Women’s Aid, which provides vital refuge, legal advice and support services to women. With Stannah match funding, this brings the total to £1,200.
Together, over 700 colleagues across 11 service branches have collectively cycled one full lap of Britain by clocking up the miles on an indoor exercise bike that will travel between each location – 4,000 miles, the equivalent of 1.28 million lift journeys – keeping Britain moving in more ways than one!
Colleagues at the Orpington branch, located on Cray Avenue, have cycled an impressive 385 miles, which brings the total mileage reached to 5,453, 36.3% over target.
Bromley & Croydon Women’s Aid was chosen by Stannah’s employees in recognition of the incredible support services it provides to support and empower women to change their lives and live free from domestic abuse. Every mile cycled reflects a shared commitment to raising funds for Bromley & Croydon Women’s Aid, which provides safe accommodation, free advice, counselling and support groups.
Janine Brown, Key Account Coordinator at Orpington Service Branch, says: “We are proud to support Bromley & Croydon Women’s Aid, a local non-profit charity that supports individuals and families affected by domestic abuse. This charity is particularly close to my heart, as they were an important part of my own journey during a difficult time. Having experienced first-hand the difference their support can make; I have a deep appreciation for the invaluable work they do for families across our local community. By choosing to fundraise for Bromley & Croydon Women’s Aid, we hope to help them continue providing essential services and support to those who need it most.”
Constanze Sen, CEO at Bromley & Croydon Women’s Aid, said: ““We are honoured to have been chosen by Stannah colleagues as the beneficiary of their incredible cycling challenge. The funds raised will help us continue supporting women and children to recover from domestic abuse and rebuild their lives. Knowing that this charity is meaningful to members of the Stannah team makes their support especially touching, and we would like to thank everyone involved for their dedication, generosity and community spirit.”
The Mayor of Bromley, Councillor Christine Harris, visited the branch to show support.
Janine thanked the Mayor of Bromley for taking the time to visit and expressed her appreciation to the charity team for joining in and for their ongoing commitment.
The Mayor of Bromley, Councillor Christine Harris, said: “So much incredible fundraising takes place across the borough, including through our local businesses, and it was a pleasure to visit the Stannah team in Orpington to hear about a great example of these efforts. Congratulations to all involved for completing the impressive challenge, which has provided important support to a local charity.”
Colleagues at Orpington Service Branch were the final team to tally up mileage on the indoor exercise bike, bringing the 4K cycle charity challenge to a close.
This nationwide challenge has been far more than tallying up miles. It has been about unity, connection, wellbeing and giving back to communities across the country — all while celebrating the engineering and service teams who keep Britain moving every day.
