Stress is no excuse for watching porn at work: ex-minister

FORMER MP Anne Milton has criticised Defence Secretary Ben Wallace for apparently trying to explain away the behaviour of a senior Tory MP who was reported to be watching porn in the House of Commons chamber.

A furore erupted at Westminster yesterday when it was reported the so-far unnamed MP was viewing pornographic material on his phone whilst sitting next to a female minister.

Ms Milton, a government minister until 2019, said Mr Wallace appeared to have been trying to explain away the incident by saying it can happen when alcohol, long hours, and a pressured work environment are combined.

She told GB News: “It may be an attempt at an excellent explanation but I don’t think he intended it as an excuse.

“And it’s not an excuse. Lots of people work long hours in high pressure environments, but there is no excuse for bullying, harassment, or watching porn at work as everybody should be aware.

She was speaking to Gloria De Piero on GB News, who also asked her what should happen to the so far unnamed porn-watching MP.

“Well, you’ve got to know if it’s a first offence.

“Is this somebody who’s got a history because I think one of the problems in workplaces…is the accumulation of multiple small offences, if we can call them that, that I think needs to be taken into account.

“In other words, does their behaviour as a whole fall short of what you would expect of somebody elected to public office?”
