Transport for London (TfL) has announced the winners of this year’s ‘In Bloom’ competition. The highly competitive staff gardening competition once again attracted an outstanding number of entries, with around 60 stations, offices and depots taking part.
This year’s entrants were asked to incorporate the theme ‘Volunteers’ to mark the United Nations ‘International Year of the Volunteer’, with staff being encouraged to donate plants and hold volunteer gardening workshops and classes.
This year’s winners include the team at Hammersmith Grove Service Control Centre for the ‘Dennis Sanger Best in Show’ award, who were praised for placing the volunteering theme at the heart of their garden. The team involved the local community in their ‘Tiny Forest’ initiative and created a garden that extended into the service control centre, transforming the workplace for all.
High Barnet Train Crew Accommodation and Kensington Olympia station both took home the ‘Volunteer’ award. At High Barnet, not only did the team donate plants for the gardens, but they also held bake sales, pizza nights and a sunflower growing competition to get everyone involved. At Kensington Olympia station, the team sculpted a bespoke planter around the theme of the United Nations ‘Year of Volunteering’.
Acton Town station and Ruislip depot came joint first for the ‘Environment’ award, which was given for their imaginative repurposing of old objects in their gardens.

Barbican station secured the ‘Sandra Wilkes Community’ award
Barking Train Crew Accommodation were crowned the ‘Best Seasoned’ entry
Edgware Road station came first in the ‘Indoor Gardens’ category
Hammersmith Grove Road Service Control Centre were triumphant in the ‘Cultivated Gardens’ (depot) category
Morden station secured the ‘Fruits and Vegetables’ award
Park Lane depot, Marble Arch was named ‘Best Newcomer’
South Tottenham station won in the ‘Cultivated Gardens’ (station) category
Susan O’Connor clinched the ‘Art in Bloom’ award, for depicting Arnos Grove
Tower Millennium pier won the ‘John Knight’ award for Best Tubs, Hanging Baskets and Window Boxes

This year’s In Bloom follows several environmental milestones hit by TfL in the past year. As of September 2026, the fleet of zero-emission buses has grown to 3,000 vehicles, making it the largest zero-emission bus fleet in western Europe. The amount of wildflower verges on TfL’s estate has grown to 520,000m², supporting pollinators and wider biodiversity. The area of Sustainable Drainage Systems catchment has also expanded to over 112,000m², improving climate resilience in the capital.
