An already packed Cuttin’ Headz x Más Tiempo lineup featuring headliners The Martinez Brothers and Skepta were joined by surprise additions of Eliza Rose, Idris Elba and Jammer, as the Beams, centre for new culture, closed its opening season tonight in one of the most electric and highly-anticipated music events of the year.
The Martinez Brothers – one of the most sought-after duos to have emerged from NYC over the past decade – brought things to a climax with a spectacular set at the close of an epic ten-and-a-half-hours of music in The Beam’s stunning Space 1.
Having recently performed at Ibiza’s legendary Circoloco party, Skepta firmly delivered once again, with a bold and soon-to-be legendary set. Meanwhile Idris Elba took to the decks fresh from a sell-out show at the newly-reopened Koko for an energetic and accomplished performance.
Earlier in the day, East London breakthrough phenomenon Eliza Rose’s uplifting high-octane set brought the house down, and Skepta’s fellow Boy Better Know grime peer Jammer treated the crowd to a journey through the genres.
Music fans flocked to the sold out event, with guests including Dua Lipa, Ricardo Tisci, Amelia Dimoldenberg, Derek Chisora and Chipmunk, which rounded off a hugely successful first chapter of The Beams. The Beams opened in October with this highly-anticipated music programme, which was presented by Broadwick in partnership with LWE – reuniting the partnership that launched Printworks in 2017.
Beams’ opening season has already seen the venue – created in a stunning former industrial space in the Royal Docks – feature performances by over 100 artists, quickly becoming an audience favourite.
Standout shows in the season included the Patrick Topping and Denis Sulta sold out SIDEXSIDE, as well as the iconic Honey Dijon’s Radiance event series, which merged house, disco and more, alongside being joined by Dan Shake, Mr G Live and Natasha Diggs, which also sold out.
Beams was opened by Broadwick Live earlier this year to act as a testbed for culture in all its forms. Following its hugely successful and acclaimed inaugural music season, the Beams will soon be announcing the first details of its wider cultural programme, with the first details to be announced in the new year.
Ajay Jayaram, Director of Music at Broadwick Live said:
“It felt like a real moment today. A unique way to bring the inaugural Beams season to a fitting close and was typical of the way artists and audiences have embraced what we have created here. Launching a new venue of this scale in London, during an uncertain time is not straightforward but this outstanding run of music events is just the beginning of the Beams’ story.”
The end of this season comes as Printworks, an award-winning Broadwick Live venue, announced its final season, which will run from February to May 2023. Following this epic final run of events, with over 40 shows scheduled to take place next year, the venue – recently voted Best Large Club by DJ Mag readers – will close for a period. Broadwick is in talks with British Land to secure its return to the iconic press halls once the wider development of the area is completed.
The Spring/Summer 2023 programme kicks off on 3rd February with a headline show from Deadmau5 and Kaskade and the venue’s closing event will take place on the weekend of 28th April to 1st May, with lineups still to be announced.
