Sutton Council is pleased to announce that we have been awarded a fund of £880,000 from the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy to improve the energy efficiency of up to 75 homes in the borough. Alongside this we will invest a further £860,000, providing a total of £1.7m that will be used to help our residents live in warm and affordable homes while reducing our impact on the environment.

With funding provided through the Government’s Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund, the project will retrofit local homes to make them healthier, warmer and more energy efficient. Homes selected for improvements will be those managed by Sutton Housing Partnership (SHP) on behalf of Sutton Council and measures implemented may include:

Triple glazing;
Cavity wall or external wall insulation;
Loft insulation.
Councillor Barry Lewis, Vice Chair of Sutton’s Environment & Sustainable Transport Committee said:

“I am delighted that we are able to support our residents to live in warm, energy efficient homes.

“We know energy prices are rising. Making homes more energy efficient will help residents to reduce their energy consumption and tackle fuel poverty.

“Sutton Council has declared a climate emergency and we recognise therefore that it is important to invest in reducing the emissions of our social housing. This project is just one of the many ways we are delivering on our ambitious environment strategy and our aim to become London’s most sustainable borough.

Steve Tucker, Managing Director of Sutton Housing Partnership, said:

“It’s fantastic news that the Council has been awarded funding to help more residents in social housing live in energy-efficient homes. Five Sutton Housing Partnership homes have already benefitted from a zero-carbon retrofit and I’m delighted that more homes will also receive energy-efficient improvement measures.

“We look forward to working in partnership with Sutton Council and playing our part towards Sutton being a carbon-neutral borough.”
