DLD College London has welcomed its newly appointed Student Council for 2021-2022, hosting a live Covid-19 safe presentation ceremony attended by the whole school community.

Following a meticulous selection process, fourteen pioneering students from the leading independent day and boarding school were congratulated and presented with special golden lanyards in recognition of their new roles. Leading the team as this coming year’s Heads of Student Council are a duo of female students, Charlotte and Jessica, with Charlotte continuing in the role from the previous year.

The DLD College London Student Council has four main areas of responsibility in the school: Academic; Wellbeing; Community & Charity; and Events. Additionally, two of the fourteen members are also dedicated to the roles of Inclusion and Diversity Lead, and Digital Innovator.

To obtain a much-coveted seat on the Council, interested students were required to submit an application form before members of staff offered their feedback, focusing on the candidate’s contributions to the College and their leadership potential. As part of the competitive process, applicants were interviewed not only by senior members of staff, but also a group of recent DLD alumni who all previously held the highly regarded position of Head of Student Council.

After their place was confirmed and the team was announced, the enthusiastic students embarked on a trip to Shoreham-by-Sea, where they participated in a highly motivational and inspirational Leadership Day to focus their minds on their roles and aims for the year ahead. In addition to a variety of physical team building exercises, the students also benefitted from lecture style conversations discussing the school’s core values of kindness, tolerance and respect, and how they wanted to embody these values for the upcoming year.

DLD College London Principal, Irfan Latif commented, “We are delighted to have appointed our Student Council for this coming year – the high calibre of candidates made it a tough competition! It is always a privilege to watch the students in our care develop and grow into responsible young adults and, more importantly, be given a voice to share their thoughts, opinions, and needs.

“As we mark this occasion, I would also like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the outgoing Student Council (2020/21), ably led by Sofya and Charlotte who, during this pandemic, kept the school community together with their infectious enthusiasm, humour and steadfastness. They leave behind a powerful legacy and it is now up to the new Student Council to decide what legacy they want to leave for future generations of DLD students. I wish them every success in their endeavours on this exciting chapter of their personal development and will value their continued input to school life, which was recognised in the recent Independent Schools’ Association (ISA) Award for Innovation in Pupil Voice.”

DLD College London is the only independent school in the heart of London with on-site boarding. It is housed in highly contemporary, purpose-built premises on 199 Westminster Bridge Road, overlooking the Palace of Westminster and the River Thames. The school was announced recently as winners of the ‘Independent Schools of the Year, Special Judges’ Award’ and ‘Independent Boarding School of the Year’, and Independent Schools’ Association (ISA) Award for ‘Innovation in Pupil Voice’.

The school offers students aged 14 to 19 the opportunity to study a wide range of GCSEs, A-Levels, BTEC courses and International Foundation Programmes (IFP). It also offers an Academic Preparation Programme (APC).

As part of the Alpha Plus Group, DLD College London provides a ‘gold standard’ of educational quality.
