THE ART CAR BOOT FAIR RETURNS TO KING’S CROSS

The Art Car Boot Fair (ACBF), famed for its exuberant, star-studded and super-friendly one day events is bringing art back to the people this May in a much anticipated return to live events.

The jam-packed spring event, held at Lewis Cubitt Square in King’s Cross, will see a line-up of over 120 extraordinary artists – all chosen for their stellar talent and ‘joie de vivre’ – selling their stunning artworks for record low prices.

With the celebratory theme, Live & Electric, visitors are invited to charge their batteries and sharpen their elbows for a frantically fun afternoon of art buying, portrait-making, live painting, muse chasing, art mingling and a whole host of interplays with the artists.

A centrepiece of the event is the stunning new work, We Are Legion by Mat Collishaw, a key figure in the important generation of British artists who emerged from Goldsmith’s College in the late 1980s. Part of his acclaimed Burning Butterflies series, We Are Legion features the colours of the Ukrainian flag and 100% of the proceeds from the sale will go to the CHOOSE LOVE Ukrainian appeal.

Priced at just £200, people will have a chance to buy a significant piece from this renowned artist whilst supporting an important cause. Collishaw will be present at the fair from 2-3pm for signings and a consignment of the edition will also be available to buy online.

The Spring 2022 line-up also includes major international talents Bob & Roberta Smith, Geraldine Swayne, Rankin, Polly Morgan, Sara Pope, Charming Baker, Jake Chapman, Mat Collishaw, Marcus Harvey, Pure Evil, Susie Hamilton, Trolley Books, Amelia Troubridge, Carrie Reichardt, Pam Hogg, Gina Birch, Bunny de Sade and many punky upstarts and sizzling new stars…with a few surprise appearances yet to be announced. Some of the art will even be electric powered and most artists will be plugged in to something, so visitors can expect a spectacle to boot!

Karen Ashton, founder of ACBF, said: “It’s the one day of the year that the artists can really let their hair down, make something new and sell it for shockingly low prices, joining in with the ACBF ethos of art, frivolity and serious bargains. After a few tough years, we can’t wait to see everyone in person again soon!”

Anthea Harries, Head of Assets at King’s Cross, added: “We are incredibly excited to welcome the Art Car Boot Fair back to King’s Cross for a second year in what will be a fantastic start to our spring/summer events programme here on the estate.”

As well as bagging a bargain, there’ll be plenty else to do on the day, with artist interactions such as the ever-popular Renaissance Selfies, portraitist extraordinaire Wilfred Woods, Mr Bingo, the Misfortune Teller, live printing, games, raffles and another chance to take a punt on the sell-out Secret Art Casino, plus a cool bar with acoustic, electric and spoken word performances.

The Art Car Boot Fair is hosted for the second time on the beautiful Lewis Cubitt Square in the heart of the award-winning Kings Cross neighbourhood. Visitors can come and go as they please and make a day of it, taking in all the fabulous independent retailers, restaurants and bars in the area or just go for a dreamy afternoon stroll along the canal.

The Art Car Boot Fair can also be accessed online from 14-16 May.

Tickets are required for the first three hours of the live and online events. Tickets are £15 for premium access and free entry after 5pm. Online tickets are £10 then free after 2pm.
