The Gym Group, the nationwide 24/7 low-cost gym operator is opening two gyms in Greater London this month as the company embarks on plans to grow its footprint across the region.

The two new sites in Wimbledon (open from 4th October) and Uxbridge (open from 11th October), are followed by plans to open four additional gyms across 2023 and H1 2024 in Greater London – including Euston, Orpington, Clapham Common and Bromley-By-Bow.

The six new sites will take the company’s total to over 70 gyms within the M25 and are estimated to create approximately 50 new jobs.

The new openings across Greater London form part of its wider national expansion as The Gym Group looks to open up to 15 new gyms across the UK between now and the end of 2024, taking the total to 245 sites nationwide.

The announcement comes after The Gym Group published its interim financial results last month, with revenue up 18.5pc in the first half of the year, and membership up by 9.7pc to 867,000 members compared to 790,000 in June 2022.

Will Orr, Chief Executive Officer at The Gym Group, comments: “Urban residential gym sites offer great flexibility and convenience, enabling our members to work out near their home as well as their workplace. We have chosen sites in different pockets of Greater London with good transport connectivity and local demand for high value, low cost fitness, which we expect will be appealing to Londoners who want to join a high-quality gym without being tied into an expensive contract.”

The Gym Group pioneered the flexible, affordable and no contract monthly gym membership in the UK. Its Ultimate membership allows members to visit up to five gyms depending on where they live and work. Memberships start from only £19.99 a month in the Greater London region.
