The LEGOLAND® Windsor Resort is opening a brand new ride – The Haunted House Monster Party – to little monsters on 13 April…but with a surprisingly smelly twist.
This spook-tacular new attraction will be infused with scents chosen by the lead Creative behind the ride, Rosie Brailsford, after thorough ‘smell testing’ of a range of scents from popcorn, birthday cake and candyfloss, to earth and oily machinery.
As guests enter the huge doors of the Haunted House, they will be hit with the old and damp smell of a “musty hallway” – a mixture of mould, mildew and old carpet, bringing the spooky haunted house to life and get spines’ tingling from the moment they walk in. As guests take their seat around an enormous banquet table in a magnificent hall, brimming with monster party food, LEGO cauldrons and potion bottles – a sugary, sickly sweet smell of bubble gum and party treats fills the air transporting the guests in the Monster Party atmosphere!
Rosie commented: “When designing The Haunted House Monster Party, our ambition was to create a ride that tantalised all of the senses. Smells have a huge impact on how we take in our surroundings and we didn’t just want them to see, feel and hear the haunted house – but smell it too!”
“It’s a lot of nose work to pick the right smells! We receive a range of samples that we ‘smell test’, before deciding which one we ultimately think will bring the ride to life. We tested a whole host of different scents; from pina colada, waffle cone, chocolate chip cookies, bubble-gum and cake mixture to earth, oily machinery and musty hallway! We want families to feel as though they are stepping into a real life haunted house when they first enter through the front doors, so picked the dank and dark smell of “musty hallway”. When you get in to the heart of the party, in the banquet hall, it’s all about the sickly-sweet smells of a kids’ party – think cotton candy, cookies, bubble-gum and sweets!”
Lord Vampyre is opening the doors of his spooky mansion for the most spook-tacular ride ever this April – fun for the whole family, the ride features friendly LEGO monsters including a ghost, Monster Rocker and joke telling LEGO gargoyles. Lord Vampyre’s party is guaranteed to turn the house upside down.
