The Quarry, a joint venture between L&Q and Anderson, is sponsoring Age UK Bexley’s Talking Café initiative for the next twelve months, helping to deliver the much-loved intergenerational project based at Lime Wood Primary School, a key landmark within The Quarry development in Erith.

As part of the sponsorship, The Quarry is supporting the termly Talking Cafés alongside donating a dedicated games and arts trolley to support activities taking place during the lunchtime sessions.

The Talking Café brings together pupils from the school and members of Age UK Bexley’s Rosemary Café, which supports people living with memory loss as well as their carers. Through arts and crafts and conversation-based activities, the sessions help to stimulate memory and cognitive function, while encouraging different generations to connect.

Lime Wood Primary School officially opened in September 2023 and continues to grow year by year, ultimately becoming a three-form entry school for children aged 4–11. The school is part of the Woodland Academy Trust, which supports schools across Bexley and Kent, and was delivered as part of the wider Quarry masterplan in partnership with L&Q, Anderson and the Trust.

Claire Brenlund, Sales and Marketing Director at L&Q, comments: “At L&Q, creating successful communities goes far beyond delivering new homes. The Talking Café is a wonderful example of the kind of meaningful local initiative that brings people together and strengthens community connections. We’re proud to support Age UK Bexley and Lime Wood Primary School through this sponsorship and look forward to seeing the project continue to grow over the coming year.”

Sasha Barnes, Head of Engagement at Age UK Bexley, comments: “The Talking Café was developed in partnership with Lime Wood Primary School as an intergenerational project bringing together children, people living with memory loss and their carers. As a local resident of The Quarry myself, I’m delighted that L&Q and Anderson have chosen to support the café over the next year. The sessions create a welcoming space for conversation and creativity, and we’ve already seen the positive impact they can have for everyone involved.”

Claire Ingrams, Headteacher and Trust Inclusion Lead at Lime Wood Primary School, says: “The support from The Quarry means a great deal to our school community and to Age UK Bexley. The Talking Café has become a truly special part of school life, helping to build confidence in our pupils. We’re incredibly grateful for the support, which will help the project continue to grow over the coming year.”

The Quarry is breathing new life into the former Erith Quarry site. The masterplan is bringing 849 new homes, green spaces and community facilities to the South East London neighbourhood.
