Today, on 6th December 2022 Christmas shoppers, commuters, tourists and families are in for a big surprise as Hyde Park Winter Wonderland and Crystal Ski Holidays reveal a spectacular ski lift crafted entirely from ice by Hamilton Ice Sculptors. As the biggest ice-carved ski lift in the UK currently, the sculpture, which will be popping up in St James, Piccadilly, is sure to catch the attention of all passers by.
Hamilton Ice Sculptors are the UK’s most experienced ice sculptors and are known to have carved the breath-taking Hyde Park Winter Wonderland sculptures enjoyed by hundreds of thousands of visitors every year in the iconic Magical Ice Kingdom. Along with their annual festive showcase, the talented team have also previously created the powerful ice bear carved in Trafalgar Square, and the iconic ‘TENZING Take Action’ ice sculpture of Sir David Attenborough, situated near Gabriel’s Wharf.
Taking two expert ice carvers over a week to create, the ski lift sculpture will stand at an impressive 3 meters wide and 1.8 meters high. Sculpted from a tremendous 1.5 tonnes of ice, the installation will be hard to miss.
The huge installation invites those who have never been skiing, but would love to give it a go, to meet in the mountains for their first taste of the slopes. At 8am on 6th December, the sculpture will be unveiled and will be open for the perfect festive photo opportunity throughout the day. Plus by uploading a photo on socials and tagging #MeetMeInTheMountains there’s a chance to win a Crystal Ski Holiday.
The sculpture has been crafted in celebration of Hyde Park Winter Wonderland and Crystal Ski Holidays joining forces this year. With the partnership, visitors can discover the joy of the mountains and experience a taste of the exciting ski holiday activities such as the Real Ice Slide, which can be found in the Magical Kingdom at Hyde Park Winter Wonderland.
