‘Tis the Season for Free Toys in South London!

Following the success of 2022’s toy drive, the giveaway this year will be held at Fishers Farm Household Reuse and Recycling Centre (HRRC), giving residents a chance to pick up some perfect Christmas gifts for free.

The toys have been donated for re-use by residents at the six HRRCs across the SLWP region. Giving donated items a new lease of life helps reduce the demand for new toys, which means less energy and fewer raw materials are needed to produce them.

Scott Edgell, General Manager for Veolia South London, said:
“Our toy giveaway is a fantastic way for residents to make someone’s Christmas without spending a penny or costing the planet, and we’re so pleased to be running the giveaway for the second year.

“We are thrilled to be working with Community Reuse to give back to the communities we serve, and hope to see many residents making use of both the giveaway and the Community Reuse shop located at Fishers Farm.”

Residents can find Veolia’s toy giveaway at Fishers Farm HRRC, Croydon, CR0 0LB on Friday 8 December between 10am and 4pm.

The giveaway is open to all residents across the SLWP boroughs of Croydon, Kingston, Merton and Sutton. Residents are just asked to bring proof of address and the HRRCs are open to pedestrians as well as visitors arriving in their vehicles. There will be a limit of four toys per resident.

Simon Bussell, Head of Contracts for South London Waste Partnership, said:
“It’s really important that the companies we work with, like Veolia, not only provide high quality services but also support the local communities they serve. Initiatives like the HRRC Christmas toy give-away are an excellent example of how this can be done. The toy-giveaway was a great success last year and I’m pleased to see Veolia expanding it across two of our HRRC sites this year. I hope local residents are able to make the most of this opportunity and pick up some gifts that are kind to the environment and help make Christmas more affordable.”

If visitors still need to complete their Christmas shopping but can’t make it to the toy giveaway, the Community Reuse Shops at Fishers Farm HRRC in Croydon, or Kimpton Parkway HRRC in Sutton, are open year-round. Items such as TVs, musical instruments, books and toys are sold at a reduced cost to both residents and non-residents. Opening times for each shop can be found on Croydon and Sutton Council websites: croydon.gov.uk/hrrc and sutton.gov.uk/hrrc.
