Forget the moped. This July, Uber Eats and wagamama are partnering with a drifting champion to bring the spectacle of Japanese underground motorsport straight to your doorstep.
Londoners ordering their fresh wagamama fix next week could see their takeaway transformed into a full-throttle feast. Instead of a standard courier, a custom-built model could bring some added flavour to their delivery, with a drifting champion at the wheel.
The drift-led drama marks a fittingly fiery debut for wagamama on Uber Eats, with everyday favourites including the chicken katsu curry, gyozas and bang bang cauliflower now reaching more fans than ever across the UK.
Inspired by the neon-drenched aesthetic of Tokyo’s underground racing scene, the delivery vehicle is a legendary 1998 Toyota Chaser wrapped in a chrome red metallic finish complete with black flame graphics, oversized aero styling, and star-studded wheels.
But a car like this needs a master at the wheel. Trading podiums for katsu duties is Ollie Evans – 2019 British Drift Champion and 2022 DriftPro Champion. Ollie knows that in drifting, timing is everything, and he’ll be piloting the 340 horsepower beast, ensuring wagamama’s cooked to order bowls are still piping hot when they move from kitchen to doorstep*. Expect precision cornering, zero lag, and pure velocity, to match the explosive, fresh flavour packed into every order.
The excitement doesn’t stop at the doorstep, nor the capital. Anyone across the UK ordering wagamama via Uber Eats between 21-23 July could win the ultimate prize: a year’s worth of free wagamama, delivered**.
The caveat? They first have to pass a food-inspired high octane test of nerve. Ballot winners will get the chance to experience professional drift driving first-hand from the passenger seat of the Toyota Chaser, tackling a food-inspired challenge at an iconic racetrack.
Merve Basci, General Manager at Uber Eats UK, says: “Great food deserves memorable moments. As wagamama reaches more homes than ever through Uber Eats, we wanted to celebrate in a way that’s as bold and energetic as the food itself. Drift Deliveries turns an everyday order into something completely unexpected.”
Mark Chambers, CEO at wagamama UK, says: “wagamama has always been about serving fresh food, cooked to order and full of flavour. Launching on Uber Eats means even more people across the UK can enjoy their favourite dishes, wherever they are. To celebrate, we wanted to do something that captured the energy and passion behind the food while staying true to our Japanese roots. Drift Deliveries brings together speed, spectacle and culture to mark the occasion in a way that’s unmistakably wagamama.”
Members of wagamama’s soul club automatically receive double the ballot entries. To qualify, place a wagamama order via Uber Eats and enter an active soul club email at checkout.
