Tombs of Amascut is the newest and yet the most accessible piece of PvM content, and it’s an activity where you can make a lot of OSRS GP. You can also receive some very useful untradeables, which will increase your quality of life or potential to earn OSRS GP with other activities.

Many players engaging in Tombs of Amascut have been wondering how the mechanics of the drop work. At the same time, many players have expressed concerns regarding how Osmumten’s fang, one of the drops tradable, is affecting the market and lowering the OSRS gold prices for other top-tier melee weapons.

Jagex’s Explanation

Jagex has explained that they will not alter the drop rates at which you can get the Osmumten’s fang within the raid. However, they expressed that they are keeping an eye out for this possibility in the future just in case the slight adjustments they will make to the item won’t work as intended. The changes are supposed to balance the demand for this item and keep the top-tier melee weapons relevant and with stable OSRS GP prices.

The reason why Jagex is changing this item which has a high likelihood of getting dropped from the raid amongst the tradeable uniques. This is because ever since its launch in August 2022, the item has yet to work as intended. The item was supposed to be unique because of its double accuracy roll. Whenever you hit an enemy in OSRS, you roll a number highly dependent on your gear bonuses and attack level. The monster you’re attacking also rolls a number based on its defense. You will have a successful hit if your attack rolls higher than the monster’s defense.

The item has been working since release because it would re-roll your attack and your enemy’s defense in cases where you wouldn’t hit your enemy from the first role. This happened instead of working as intended, meaning the item should only reroll on your attack and not on the enemy’s defense. Jagex has calculated that this would slightly affect your successful hit chance for enemies with lower defense and highly affect your successful hit rate when you fight monsters with high defense, such as the corporeal beast.

The calculations showed that for an enemy with a relatively low defense, you’d hit about 57 percent of the time with a standard one-roll weapon and have a 76 percent chance of hitting the monster with the intended double roll compared to the actual unintended double roll on both your attack and the monster’s defense where you’d get 81 percent chance to hit. The difference between what was intended and what was released is small, just 5 percent. However, further calculations showed that in the case of enemies with a relatively high defense level, the standard single roll would hit 29 percent of the chance and the double roll on the attack 39 percent of the time.

This means that your chance of hitting a monster is 72 percent improved compared to a standard hit, according to Jagex, and this is one of the reasons this weapon became the new meta. This has created huge price increases and drops on the GE for the top melee weapons. But the drops in tombs of Amascut are more than the fang. First, the drops are based on points. Each monster and boss you kill will give you specific points based on their total HP and their points modifiers.

Drop Rates Are Linked to the Raid’s Difficulty

On top of this, the drop rates are directly linked to the raid’s difficulty level, which is related to which and how many invocations you or the raid leader are using at the beginning of the raid. Therefore, the drop rates will be modified by 20 for each raid difficulty level. This will, however, only determine whether or not you or your party will receive a unique reward at the end of a successful run.

The drop in itself is determined by RNG plus the weight of each possible uniques. The Lightbearer and Osmumten’s fang, while other rewards have less weight, you are less likely to drop but might have a higher OSRS GP value. Unreadable drops cannot become OSRS items for sale.
