Ranked world number one by the Association of Tennis Professionals in 2016, Andy Murray has won two Grand Slam singles titles Wimbledon and is also currently the only player to defeat Novak Djokovic in a Wimbledon final.
Second position was won by recently retired Swiss tennis player Roger Federer who was ranked world No. 1 by the Association of Tennis Professionals for 310 weeks. Federer has won a record eight men’s singles Wimbledon titles.
The nation’s third favourite tennis player to have played at Wimbledon is Rafael Nadal who is currently ranked world No.2 in men’s singles tennis by the Association of Tennis Professionals. He has been ranked world No. 1 for 209 weeks, and has finished as the year-end No. 1 five times. Rafael Nadal has won an all-time record 22 Grand Slam men’s singles titles which includes two Grand Slams at Wimbledon.
The World’s greatest tennis player, Serena Williams, takes fourth position as the nation’s favourite tennis player to have played at Wimbledon. She was ranked world No. 1 in singles by the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) for 319 weeks and finished as the year-end No. 1 five times. She has won seven Grand Slam wins at Wimbledon.
American tennis legend John McEnroe takes fifth position in the poll. McEnroe is the only male player in tennis history to hold the world No. 1 ranking in both singles and doubles simultaneously. McEnroe finished his career with 77 singles titles, three of which were at Wimbledon, on the Association of Tennis Professionals Tour and 78 doubles titles, including four at Wimbledon, which remains the highest men’s combined total.
